Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700 Review

Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700 Review: Which is Better?

Today we are having some fun by having a little wrestling match up between the Bose Smart Soundbar 300 vs Bose Smart Soundbar 700 to see which one is going to be the best for your living room or home theatre. Bose makes some of the most premium soundbars around and they have a great reputation online. We do though have this pretty awesome 5 best soundbars under $400 article that features soundbars made by companies other than Bose so be sure to check that out too. Anyway, let’s get back to what we are really here for today and that is finding out which one of these you need under your TV or projector screen.

The Price: Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700

Everyone has a price said the Million Dollar Man! Look, I know that Bose does not make cheap products, but I do feel that the build quality is the reason they are able to charge what they charge. Anyway, if you want a soundbar, but want to be way under the prices we are looking at today check out our, 6 best soundbars under $200 article as we have some sweet deals there.

Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Bluetooth Connectivity with Alexa Voice Control Built-In, Black

Bose Smart Soundbar 300: The Bose Smart Soundbar 300 is priced at around $399.99. I know that this seems like a lot of money (and it is) however, it is worth pointing out that this is half the price of its opponent today. Bose was able to take some of their higher-end components and manage to offer them to people at this price which I think is pretty great.

Bose Smart Soundbar 700: Priced at $799.99, the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 is the premium offering (well as I write this) that Bose offer. The asking price here is very high and I know that unless you are truly serious about your home theatre or even just sound in general the asking price is pretty insane. I think on its own, when you consider just how good this is, the 800 bucks is not out of line. However, when you look at it side by side with the 300, the fact this is double the price is hard to ignore.

The Verdict: Hmm, in terms of price it is very hard to compare these two. At the end of the day, 400 bucks is a lot of money. However, I do feel that the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 is more than worth the money. At the end of the day, if you can swing that extra 400 bucks I say go for it. However, you could also make the argument that the 400 bucks you would be saving on the 300 could go towards buying a subwoofer, a set of rear speakers, or a whole bunch of Blu-Rays!

The Design: Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700

While producing amazing sound is what you want a soundbar to do, you also want them to fit in with the aesthetic of your room too. Thankfully, Bose does not make a bad-looking soundbar as far as I am concerned!

Bose Smart Soundbar 300: This thing looks very, very cool. The dimensions of this are, 27.4” x 2.2” x 4.1”. This is quite compact and you do not really realize how compact this is until it is in your hands. It is not super long so if you have this under the TV, for example, it does not take up a great deal of space.

Like most other soundbars, this one is made mostly of plastic. I really do like the design of this, it is very sleek and cool, the Bose logo on the top I think I could do without, to be honest, but it is not a massive eyesore or anything like that. The speaker grille on the front is metal and finishes it off very nicely. On the back of the soundbar, you have your hookups which are pretty well hidden. You can use HDMI, Optical, or Bluetooth for connecting this to your devices. You also have your micro USB for updates, a subwoofer input, and so on located on the back.

Bose Smart Soundbar 700: We looked at some other high end soundbars in our best soundbars under $600 article, but the design of the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 leaves them all in the dust. This is much longer than the 300 coming in at 38.4” wide so it is over 10 inches longer than the 300, so you will need a fair bit more space and it will stand out more. The height and depth however are right around the same as the 300 which is neat.

This has a kind of similar design (it can also be purchased in white) what sets this apart is the top of the soundbar. Rather than use plastic which the majority of other soundbars do, this one is glass and it looks great. Seriously, this is probably the best-looking soundbar that I have ever seen. This glass is a magnet for fingerprints, but they are easily wiped off. On the back, you have the same hookups as the 300. So, connecting this via HDMI, optical or Bluetooth is nice and easy.

The Verdict: Look, the Bose Smart Soundbar 300 looks fantastic, it really does. However, I have to say that the 700 is a clear winner here. This thing just oozes class and coolness in a way that I have never seen another soundbar too. Granted, its length means it takes up a lot of space, but I think it is worth it. Plus, you will not mind one bit having this out on display.

The Sound: Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700

As you know the most important aspect of a soundbar is how it is going to sound. Both of these produce fantastic sound, but which one is better?

Jurassic World 5-Movie Collection (4K Ultra HD + Digital) [Blu-ray]

Bose Smart Soundbar 300: This is a 3.1 soundbar and it is great. The leap from your TV speakers to this will be amazing to you. What I like about this is that it offers some real punch. This means if you are watching a more action-heavy movie like Jurassic Park you will feel like the T-Rex is in the room with you. Even though this has a rather small stature, it does pack that boom that you want when you are trying to bring the cinema experience home.

Slippery When Wet [LP]

While it is easy to talk about this thing being nice and loud, another thing I want to give it a pat on the back for is vocal clarity. I also connected this to my turntable and was very impressed at how my Slippery When Wet record sounded. This also goes for movies that are very dialogue-heavy, the vocal clarity is fantastic.

It is worth noting that there is no subwoofer in this, but we have some great subwoofer guides such as our best subwoofer under $200 which features some great budget priced subwoofers. Due to the lack of a subwoofer, it is a little lacking in the bass department. Still, if you are sitting face on to this thing, you will be blown away by the power it has.

The Dark Knight (4K Ultra HD) [Blu-ray]

Bose Smart Soundbar 700: This is also a 3.1 soundbar and it is the best of the best when it comes to what Bose offers. This has a very clever design that fills the room with sound. The first movie I watched using this was The Dark Knight and I am not exaggerating when I say it was like I was in the cinema. The raw power this offers is just fantastic, even at louder volumes, I was blown away.

Forrest Gump (4K UHD + Blu-ray + Digital)

Vocal clarity is amazing too. I watched the classic, Forest Gump with this, and the vocals and the epic soundtrack all sounded amazing. Even though this does not have a built-in subwoofer, it does pack one hell of a punch.

Bose Bass Module 700 - Black- Wireless, Compact Subwoofer

Speaking of a subwoofer, you can connect anyone you want to this, but Bose has made it so that it works flawlessly with their (also very expensive) Bose Bass Module 700 Subwoofer.

I know I already said this fills the room with sound, but this is as close as to surround sound as you can get from a soundbar in my opinion. You really do feel like that the sound is hitting you from all angles which is incredibly impressive.

The Verdict: Look, there is a massive price difference and size difference between the two so it is kind of unfair. However, side by side, the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 offers a richer, fuller, and deeper cinema-style sound. Do not get me wrong the 300 is great, but the 700 offers a noticeable improvement in every way.

The Remote Control: Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700

Being able to control your subwoofer is a pretty damn important aspect of it and that is what we are looking at here.

Bose Smart Soundbar 300: With this, you get a pretty basic remote. It is nice and small and the perfect size for the kids to lose down the back of the sofa. It works well enough and even lets you play with some presets. If you have Alexa, you can also use your voice to control this. Another handy feature is that you can also use the Bose app on your phone to control this which comes in way handier than you would think.

Bose Smart Soundbar 700: This soundbar comes with the most amazing remote control that I have ever had the pleasure to use. To start with the buttons, light up, but only the buttons that are relevant to the current setup you have! It is the remote of the future! It gives you direct control over every aspect of the sound and switching between presets could not be any easier. Like the 300, this can also be used with Alexa and the Bose app on your phone.

The Verdict: Look, the remote that comes with the Bose Smart Soundbar 300 is fine. It more than gets the job done. However, the remote that they made for the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 is truly like something out of the future. I have my suspicions that this was actually created by Skynet after a cyborg from the future came back in time to kill this kid called John Connor.

What Is In The Box? (Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700)

Here we are looking at what Bose has thrown in the box with each of these soundbars.

Bose Smart Soundbar 300: Well, you of course get the soundbar, remote, and power cable. They also give you an optical cable too. That is all that is in the box. I do feel that for 400 bucks they could have thrown in an HDMI cable too! I know that HDMI cables are dirt cheap, but come on!

Bose Smart Soundbar 700: You get the soundbar, remote, and power cable as you would expect. However, Bose also gives you an optical and HDMI cable! This means that this thing is ready to rock out of the box, no matter how you decide to hook it up. They also give you a cleaning cloth to take care of that very nice glass top. A fun little bonus is the Bose ADAPTiQ headset which you can use to calibrate your soundbar just the way you want it.

The Verdict: I did say in my Bose Smart Soundbar 700 review that I wished they took about 20 bucks off the price and did not bother with the headset, but it is still a nice bonus. Look, the 700 is the clear winner here. It comes with everything you need. Plus, I still think it is really stingy that Bose did not throw in a cable with the 300.

What Is The Better Soundbar: Bose Smart Soundbar 300 Vs 700?

Bose Smart Soundbar 700: Premium Bluetooth Soundbar with Alexa Voice Control Built-in, Black

I know that this is a cop-out, but the truth is that both the  Bose Smart Soundbar 300 and the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 are fantastic soundbars and you would be very happy with either one. I have to say that the Bose Soundbar 700 is clearly the better soundbar out of the two. It just builds on what the 300 does and is better in pretty much every regard. However, you cannot ignore that massive 400 bucks price difference that there is. This is a huge amount of money and at the end of the day, the 300 is still a great soundbar and you just have to decide if you feel the 700 is worth that extra 400 bucks.
